ENDURA CAP ARM BAND

Old New

For this project I redesigned part of a project we made last year to protect Dexcoms during contact sports such as fensing, soccer, or lacross inorder to prevent them being ripped off and prolong their lifespan. The original design foccused primarly on a PLA cap that slipped on over the dexcom and was then secured by either a sticker reinforced with hexagon patterned TPU or an arm band, both of which add structure while still flexing to allow for a comfertable wear.

I chose to redesign the armband for this project because the one I created perviously used part of a sock as the elastic which worked but wasn't super secure and made it hard to put over the dexcom and cap. Using a better material and adding an adjustment system would make the band much more effective. The original design also had the TPU hexagon structure sewn into it which provided suport but made the arm band more bulky. Using a better elastic that coukd be easily adjusted would remove the need for the hexagon patterned TPU, requiring instead only a peice to allow it to connect to the cap. This will not only make the band more comfertable, but it will also allow it to be less bulky giving it a cleaner look. I also did not have a sewing machin last year, and while hand sewing worked for the prototype it would look and hold up better if a machine was used.

2in Elastic band Adjustment Mechananism Opening for Cap

To make this product I ordered 2 inch knit elastic that provided a much more support. I then printed a ring that slides over the dexcom cover we created earlier to secure it. I seweed this towards the middle of a large piece of elastic, making sure all cut edgeds were sewn down to prevent freying. Next I printed 2 clasps that create a system for tighting and loosing to arm band to allow it to slide over the devise easliy and then be tightened to utalize the strength of the elastic. I threaded the clasp and then sewed down all loose ends creating a loop that can adjust to a wide range of sizes.

The final result was a clean arm band that is easier to slide over the Dexcom and holds the device down better, while still creating a comfertable expiernce.

If I could change one thing if this design were headed towards mass production it would be a tighter fit on the clasps on the armband. Some of the dimensions were hard to get exact with the knoledge I have on CAD softwears, however, someone more expierenced would be able to modify the dimesions of the 2 pla clasps to minamize the space they take up making the design look more professional.
